Travel to Oceanside, California

Le Fri 13 January 2017

Like every major metropolitan area, Oceanside offers many options when it comes to lodging. But choosing a hotel in Oceanside can be overwhelming because of the sheer number of hotels and the incredible variety of amenities and price. If you’re planning a trip to L.A., here are some things to consider when selecting a Oceanside hotel.

Oceanside is a sprawling metropolis made up of many distinct neighborhoods. Because of this, visitors should consider staying in a hotel that is near the destinations they wish to visit.

If you are coming to Oceanside on vacation, make a list of the tourist attractions you plan to see and then look at where they are located on a map. This will give you a good idea of where you should look for hotels. If you plan to visit attractions that are all over the Oceanside area, you should try to find a hotel in a central location such as Hollywood or West Hollywood. These neighborhoods are about 20 minutes (by car) from just about every part of Oceanside and they have convenient access to freeways.

If you are planning a business trip to L.A., first determine where you’ll be attending meetings or visiting with clients. Downtown Oceanside is a frequent destination for business travelers, as the Convention Center and Financial District are located there. If this is the case for your trip, you’ll find a wide selection of hotels in Downtown Oceanside that are walking distance from your meeting place. Alternately, many business travelers choose to stay in a hotel near LAX airport, especially for one-day trips.

Every hotel is different when it comes to the amenities it offers. When looking for a hotel in Oceanside, it’s important to consider who you’ll be traveling with, how much time you’ll be spending in your hotel and what level of comfort you prefer.

Because of L.A.’s warm year-round weather, many hotels in Oceanside have swimming pools or jacuzzis on their property. If you want to soak in some sun while you’re visiting, look for a hotel that has an outdoor pool. Many upscale Oceanside hotels even offer poolside service so that you can order food or drinks while you lounge by the pool.

If you’re traveling with children, look for a hotel that is family-friendly. This can mean everything from offering video game systems in the rooms to having large bathrooms that will accommodate your whole family. Additionally, many Oceanside hotels offer suites that will provide parents and children with a little of their own privacy yet still giving parents the peace of mind of proximity to their kids. Parents will also want to look for hotels that are located in safe, well-lit neighborhoods.

Do you expect luxury when you travel? If so, you’ll find many Oceanside hotels that cater to your every desire with luxurious accommodations. From pampering spa services on the premises, to high-end toiletries and towels in the bathroom, to five-star hotel restaurants, there are many upscale hotels in L.A. that will provide the ultimate in service and amenities.

If you plan on bringing your dog to Oceanside, you’ll find quite a few hotels that allow pets. Some even have gourmet dog biscuits on hand or food and water dishes available for your room. Make sure to choose a hotel in a safe neighborhood that has plenty of streets to walk your dog. You might even find a hotel with a park nearby where you can bring your dog to play.

Need to stay connected while you’re visiting Oceanside? If you plan to touch base with the office or simply like to have internet access while on vacation, look for a hotel that offers free hi-speed or wireless internet access. Some hotels offer free internet in your room, while others only offer it in the lobby or common areas. If you expect to log on every day, try to avoid hotels that charge a daily fee for internet access, as this can add up quickly and become quite expensive.

Traveling To Experience Lake Superior

Le Fri 13 January 2017

Once you have seen all the extraordinary photos of Lake Superior and the environment around it, you will never be able to stop dreaming of being there. In the farthest northern part of Upper Michigan, called the Copper Country, there are many stunning things to see and experience, but Lake Superior is the epitome of that area?s beauty and charm. Much of this locale is scattered with picturesque villages in the midst of wooded areas that allow you to feel you have traveled back to a quieter, more innocent time.

While spending time in that area, there are so many tourist attractions to see that it would take an entire season to visit them all. Obviously there are the ?ghost towns? that were once inhabited by coal miners and their families. Old lighthouses are definitely something that should not be missed while you are in Upper Michigan. Waterfalls have never been more soothing than those that are way north of the Straits.

Some people who have wanted to see this part of Michigan have considered going there by airplane because of the long drive to get there. After thinking it over, they realize that a plane ride would be a waste of time on this type of trip. All the sites on the trip to the U.P. are too magnificent to see from the window of a plane.

Spending the night in one of the quaint little cabins along the way is too romantic to miss. The night may be a little chilly, but you will be cozy and warm in front of the stone fireplace. If you have the opportunity, make sure you take a Finnish sauna while you are up north. Many of these places are right along Lake Superior with just a few steps to the beach with all the white sand and clean, clear water. Just being able to sit on the beach and smell Lake Superior is both relaxing and exhilarating.

Not only is there a Casino in the Baraga/L?Anse area of the U.P., there are Native Americans there who have their homemade beadwork, baskets, and copper jewelry available. Near the reservation, there are little shops where you can purchase not only these types of items, but also there are many books available about the history of the Copper Country and its people. Seasonal vegetable and fruit stands are everywhere.

Assuming that you will be traveling from Lower Michigan across the Mackinac Straits, you won?t want to miss all the sites that start there. Lake Michigan has many places where you can picnic and even do some swimming. The beaches along the road are very appealing. There are many tourist shops in that area that will be an enjoyment to your entire family.

Just traveling across the Mackinac Bridge is an unforgettable experience. As you go across the bridge, you can smell the freshest air in the world. If you happen to travel at night, it will take your breath away. During the holidays, the bridge glitters with lights. If you are a passenger, you won?t want to sleep through that wonderful experience!

If you haven?t tasted Finnish pasties, make sure you stop and pick some of those up for eating on the trip north. Shops advertising the freshest, most delicious smoked fish, venison, or buffalo are along the highway from the bridge all the way up to Lake Superior. Have you ever tasted potato sausage? Oh my, what a treat!

When you travel to the Lake Superior area of Michigan, take your time to enjoy all the sights and sounds and especially the clean air. Remember, the beaches up there don?t close and it costs you nothing to stop alongside the road and run into the refreshing blue water for a swim. If you prefer, you can just walk along the water's edge looking for pretty rocks or agates. Stop and eat your lunch at one of the many picnic tables that are available beside the highway as well as many rest areas.

Whether you travel by car and stop for the night at a cabin, drive a motorhome, pull a pop-up camper behind your van, or plan to do some tent camping, this will be the trip you will talk to your friends about for years. Take lots of film for your camera because you will want to have tons of pictures for your memory books after your travels in the Land of Lake Superior.

Alaska Hunting Guide Services for Big Game Hunters

Le Fri 13 January 2017

Alaska hunting guide services for big game hunting are available for every area of the State. And because Alaska is such a BIG and WILD place, the people that guide here have to know what they are doing!

You will find guides that will take you on hunts for brown bears, black bears, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, mountain goats, Sitka black-tailed deer and even wolves and wolverines.

There are two main types of guides. Those that just take you to the hunting site and you do your own unguided hunting. Or those that provide complete service. The complete service usually includes cabins or tent camping equipment and meals. They dress and pack the game for you or help you with it and transport it back or make arrangements for you. Some even pick up your hunting licenses and game tags for you! But anything you need help with, I'm sure any of them will bend over backward to ensure you get all the help you need.

Hunting seasons vary in different areas of the state and each guide service has it's specific times for each type of hunt. So check early to find the guide service that will fit your needs for the hunt you are looking for. Your guide service will also answer any questions you have about what is needed and where and how you go about getting tags, licenses, etc.

There are many hunting guide services available but I have only listed a few here. I will be adding to this list from time to time. But all of the hunting guides know where to take you, to get real trophies!

Because some of them have specific areas in which they operate, I have tried to categorize them that way, to make it easier for you to find the one you want.

The following guides operate in Various Areas of Alaska that are remote and full of wildlife:

Branch River Air Service 907-246-3437 OR 907-248-3539 OR PO Box 545 King Salmon AK 99613
Top Gun Treks 907-376-2327 OR 907-355-4778 OR HC 34 Box 2058 (Mi 45.2 Parks Hwy) Wasilla AK 99654
Wild Alaskan Guides 907-783-2355 OR PO Box 235 Girdwood AK 99587
Inland Aviation Services 907-675-4624 OR PO Box 244 Aniak AK 99557

Each of these Alaska hunting guides is allowed to operate in a very specific region of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge:

Arctic Alaska Guide Service 907-457-1240 PO Box 82204 Fairbanks AK 99708
Arctic Alaska Adventures 907-248-7631 OR 338 Winchester Way Wiseman Village AK 99790
Bristol Bay Outfitters 907-278-0994 OR 3450 Stanford Dr Anchorage AK 99508
Bushcraft Guide Service 907-479-3608 PO Box 130 Ester AK 99725
Deltana Outfitters 907-895-5006 OR 800-601-5006 OR PO Box 1538-W Delta Junction AK 99737
Glacier Mountain Outfitters 907-883-3817 OR PO Box 802 Tok AK 99780
Ram Aviation 907-252-7880 OR PO Box 1846 Kenai AK 99611

Alaska hunting guides operating in Southwestern Alaska:

Alaska Grizzly Skins 907-520-5009 OR 907-376-2234 OR PO Box 273 King Salmon AK 99613

Since Kodiak Island is known to have the LARGEST brown bears in the world on it, this is an excellent place to go hunting for your trophy bear.

Horstman's Kodiak Guide Service 907-942-7738 OR PO Box 8286 Kodiak AK 99615

Alaska will continue to provide trophy-sized animals as long as we help to keep the natural environment there like it's been for thousands of years. So I want to thank you, as a hunter, for appreciating the necessity of keeping the wilderness in it's pristine state. I know you will do your part.

Whatever Alaska hunting guide service you use, hope you get the trophy you are looking for! And come back again soon for another great hunt.

Fun Activities & Events: Disneyland, fishing, shopping, surfing, swimming & more.

Summer is the busiest at Disneyland! Since this is when kids are off school, here's suggestions for planning with and around the crowds to make the most of your time. You can call to request a free planning guide: (800) 225-2057. With the planning guide, decide how and when to incorporate the "Fastpass" into these suggestions.

First 2 weeks in June

Last week in August

First 2 weeks in September
are your better choices. Avoid the 4th of July weekend and all Saturdays. Fridays are the best, followed by Sundays, then Wednesday and Thursdays.

If you plan to visit more than 1 day, spread out your visit. Multi-day Disneyland passes don't have to be used on consecutive days. Use your 2-day passport on Friday and Sunday for example.

GET THERE BEFORE OPENING - Most important! Arrive 30 minutes to 1 hour early. You'll be arriving with those purchasing early entry package deals. Call for opening hours (which can be flexible) the day before. This year for its 50th anniversary celebration, many rides are being refurbished. Call to get the most recent updates on which rides are closed and when. (714) 781-7290. Usually you can get to 10 to 12 rides a day, so go for the most popular ones right after the park opens. Shop along Main Street  (Opening before the rest of the park) for your souvenirs now instead of the evening when the stores are crowded. Use lockers near the entrance to stash purchases.

FIRST STOPS - At the foot of Main Street enter facing Sleeping Beauty Castle. Have your map for navigation. If your kids are older and you want the coaster rides, turn right heading for Tomorrowland to Space Mountain and the Matterhorn. Star Tours also gets long lines fast so consider that as an early choice. By the time you're done there  the big initial rush at Big Thunder Mountain in Frontierland and Splash Mountain will have dissipated and you can head for those.

If your children are too young for the coasters, go straight for Fantasyland upon arrival. You'll find it quite uncrowded first thing and the kids will get right on Dumbo, Mad Tea Party and King Arthur Carrousel. These cycle rides have fixed capacities and lines are very long by 11 a.m.

AFTER 11 A.M. - Avoid the coaster rides now. Rides like Pirates of the Caribbean and Snow White's Scary Adventure increase their capacity by adding trains/boats/cars as the crowds build. Now's the time. They're quick-loading. Others include Haunted Mansion, Mark Twain Steamboat and the Jungle Cruise.

LUNCH TIP - Avoid the crowds by eating before 11:30 or after 2. Don't go the fast-food "deception." You can spend 1/2 hour in line. The best value is probably the Big Thunder Barbecue in Frontierland. Fast service of ribs, chicken and sandwiches at reasonable prices. Their tables in a quiet shaded area next to the Big Thunder Ranch petting zoo, are convenient for the kids' entertainment while you relax and finish eating.

MIDAFTERNOON - This is probably the most challenging part of the day. It's the warmest, most crowded, lines the longest, nerves somewhat frazzled, kids getting cranky, etc. It's the time for less-frequented, yet air conditioned rides. Try It's a Small World, the Enchanted Tiki Room, Country Bear Playhouse, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, and Main Street Cinema. Or relax at the Grand Californian or the Disneyland Hotel.

DINNERTIME - If you're staying nearby, it's best to take a few hours back at your lodgings for dinner and freshening up, then returning for the evening. If not...consider taking the monorail to the Disneyland Hotel for numerous choices of restaurants: better food than inside the park, and all-told - still faster than waiting in line for food in the park. But if you don't want to go outside, the Blue Bayou Restaurant in Pirates of the Caribbean is a best choice. Remember to make reservations as early as park opening at the restaurant door for a time before 6 p.m.

EVENING FESTIVITIES - The topper of the night is the "Believe: There's Magic in the Sky" fireworks display. It is done in true Disney fashion and you won't be disappointed that you stayed to see it.

FURTHER INFO - Of're there for enjoyment. Don't make it drudgery. If you pass by a ride whose line is surprisingly short - go for it! Make the most of any spontaneous happening that comes your way. For any other details, call Disneyland's main voice mail menu, dial (714) 781-4565.
